Rant(s) of the Day

I don’t have much time to write but here are two things bugging me today:

(1) Is this the doofiest looking Bachelor ever? And are these the most annoying and crazy women on the Bachelor ever? Now look, I know I should probably just stop watching this nonsense; I did take a bit of a hiatus for a couple of seasons but for some reason decided to return to The Bachelor this season and I have to say that I just don’t get the appeal of this guy. First of all, what’s with that hair? It’s like a cross between Justin Beiber and Tony Danza from his “Who’s the Boss” days. Admittedly, I didn’t watch The Bachelorette when he was on so maybe he’s got some awesome personality or something that people love but so far, 2 episodes in, I ain’t seeing it. But the women on the show keep talking about how hot he is so maybe there’s something wrong with my eyes? And speaking of these women? Ugh, these women. For the most part, they’re awful, shallow, nasty and whacked out. Where do they find these women? Do they go to local courthouses to see who has had restraining orders filed against them and then seek those people out? (Bachelor producer: “Hey, so you can’t go within 50 feet of your ex so how about you come on our show and be a crazy stalker there? Plus, we’ll give you all the alcohol you can drink and sequester you with 20 other crazy women! Doesn’t that sound like a recipe for fun?) Ok, ok, I should just stop watching this show. I’m sorry but I appear to be powerless against the pull of train wreck reality tv. I’ll seek help, I promise.

(2) Beyonce and her baby are getting on my nerves already and that kid is only a couple of days old. Alright, it’s not the baby’s fault and I’m sure she’s cute as a button and all but I don’t get all the hoopla over Beyonce having a baby. Has she done something no other woman in the history of the world has done? Here’s what’s really bugging me though – the statement that she and Jay-Z released yesterday in which they say they’re happy, the kid is cute, blah blah whatever and “She was delivered naturally. I’m sorry did I ask you whether that baby was pushed out of your vagina? And by telling the world that you did, in fact, push that baby out of your vagina does that make you better than the rest of us that didn’t or couldn’t do so? Maybe I’m oversensitive because I really wanted and expected to have a drug-free, vaginal delivery and instead ended up with an emergency c-section but can we all just get past the idea that having a vaginal birth somehow makes you better? And can we please, please stop calling it a “natural” birth therefore implying that my kid came into this world in some kind of unnatural way? We all do what we need to do to deliver our babies safely and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

Feel free to let me know if you disagree with either of my rants. I’m sure many of you have very different opinions on both subjects!

  1. Your comments on the Bachelor are bang on! My sister and I just had the same conversation yesterday…she also used the word ‘whacked’. Ben seems quite nice and normal – probably a great catch in real life, but not so exciting in the reality TV world. Still, I will keep watching just to see what the crazies are up to.

  2. I don’t really watch The Bachelor, but I agree with your comments on his appearance! I am a reality girl, too, but I stick with Mob Wives and Teen Mom… My guilty pleasures! LOL! Anyway, I don’t get the hype with Beyonce, too… Oh, and to add to your comments on this subject, I don’t understand why it was National news that Jay-Z recorded a song overnight and it talks about how they had a miscarriage before and in this song, their child even has a sound bite in it. Really? Really!? Oy vey! I just don’t get it…

  3. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about baby Blue Ivy. I have been ranting ever since one of the morning shows started the baby watch and I keep praying it will be over soon but the media keeps finding something new to talk about. I thought politics was going to do me in, but I think this will be first.

    • Ronald, yes you are right in that a drug-free, vaginal birth is definitely more “natural”. My issue is with the way the word “natural” is used nowadays, as a badge of honor or a way to insinuate that those who have drug-free, vaginal births are better mothers than me. I know far too many women who have had to have emergency c-sections and felt a lot of shame about it; there tends to be a feeling that our bodies are designed to give birth so if we somehow fail to do it “naturally” we’re not fulfilling our roles as women. It’s ridiculous and unnecessary.

  4. This season’s Bachelor is lame…guess the producers had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find something to shake it up…the wackiest women they could find. T’would be fun to see the ladies all get together and figure this out and then give back their roses and leave.

Beyonce had a kid..big deal. I couldn’t be less interested than if they announced they found lint in her belly button. I heard that she had a cesarean somewhere so this ‘born natural’ may be a way of counteracting that rumour. I wonder which is true…C-section or per vagina…either way…the kid was born.

  5. You are bang on both points!! I too watched the Bachelor for the first time this season in YEARS and couldn’t believe my eyes (and ears). Yup, he’s dorky with no personality and the women are stock raving mad. Makes for good crazy TV though. 😉
